To the Desert by Benjamin Alire Saenz
To the Desert
"Break me, I am bread. I will be water for your thirst."
This quote is really interesting. How i interpret it as is this guy telling his love that I can be anything for you. If you need to break me for your sake. Just do it. I can be the water or bread which even one you need. For some reason, when I think of breaking bread i think of the church. Maybe the author is suggesting a holy union that is unbreakable with his lover. The poem itself hints of this guy just going crazy for his lover and he takes it a step further by making it a holy union.
